Thank goodness that there is some hope for the future of
some innovation in the classroom. My son sat in on a
class and was very impressed. He is used to public school
where most of class time is spent handing out pretests
after an extremely short explanation and lecture which
you are not advised to ask to have repeated. Hopefully
other teachers will consider giving this a whirl as well.
it takes the burden off parents to try to assist their kids
with their homework and brings extra help into the
classroom.

One thing teachers can do is show kids how the things that don't seem relevant at first ARE relevant to the things they're passionate about. My Watkinson education helped me find the interesting things in diverse subjects and relate them to my passions. This helped me survive more than one college course: I was able to find my own approach and engage my passion in subjects I might otherwise have struggled with. Kids are naturally curious; the first thing is to avoid obstructing that curiosity, and Watkinson excels at that. My Watkinson teachers (including you, of course, Sandy!) went beyond that, finding ways to FIRE UP my curiosity in ways I'd never considered.
